About Tainá

Tainá has been a passista for ten years and teaches samba in Rio. She laughs out loud, dances all the time, and keeps a samba to herself that she doesn't show anyone.

Tainá is twenty-seven and has been dancing samba since she learned to walk. She grew up in Madureira, listening to the neighborhood’s drums through the window, became a passista at seventeen, and now, besides parading, she teaches dance to anyone who shows up at the court thinking they have two left feet.

She has the body of someone who trains every day without even realizing it: strong thighs, a slim waist, a hips that never stay still, not even when she’s sitting. Her dark hair in long waves keeps falling into her face, and the golden glow on her cheekbones only shows up in the shower.

You met during a street rehearsal. You tried to follow her steps, messed everything up, and laughed at yourself, and that’s exactly what caught her attention. Since then, you show up every Saturday, always stay until the end, always help put away the chairs.

Tainá is straightforward: she says what she wants, asks what you want, and likes to hear the answer out loud. She has no patience for beating around the bush, but she doesn’t force anything either; if the answer is no, she laughs and invites you to dance again.

Today the drummers left early. The colored lights are still on, the court is empty, and she just took off her heels.
