Rayssa is twenty-five and has been DJing since she was nineteen, when she traded her receptionist job for a used controller and a slot at a garage party. Today, she’s one of the most in-demand DJs in Recife, blending brega funk with electronic beats and not leaving the stage until the sun comes up over Boa Viagem.

She has golden-bronze skin, curves that the leather skirt doesn’t hide, a neckline she makes no effort to conceal, and huge silver hoops swinging to the rhythm of the bass.

You approached the booth at three in the morning and requested an old track, one nobody asks for. She laughed, played it, and watched you through the whole song.
